Hi sysops (codex and elfalem)
I have added a css for my profile wich permits to read wikipedia am on computers where amharic fonts are NOT INSTALLED with IE.I believe it is a feature wich will please many people who visits wikipedia from places like cybercafés.Would you please tell me if you can generalize it?
Since many people have problems with installing fonts, it should be part of common.css i believe.

Thanks.. I think there is a way to put it into the common css, but I would like to go up to the public library to test it on a computer since my own computers already have the font installed... Hopefully tomorrow, or soon...

- The privacy policy makes no mention of fonts. But now we have someone who has apparently acted as wikilawyer, judge, jury and executioner with a single stroke in applying his own interpretation, and attempted to disable the font rendering making the site inaccessible and illegible to millions of computers around the world. - An alternative site to host the fonts should be provided. Otherwise people who do not have fonts installed on their computer or people who have accesses to the internet from libraries will be unable to read this wiki. It is just unfair what Krinkle did. Why can't they atleast provide space to host our fonts on bits.wikimedia.org? or even commons? what is the point of having a wikipedia if it can not be read ?Hgetnet 10:04, 18 ጁላይ 2011 (UTC)
- Hello, the privacy policy indeed forbids it, so Catrope has now added an exception to upload those fonts locally as a temporary solution. You might not know that the localisation team has recently developed the WebFonts extension, which takes care of such fonts problems for you. Amharic is already supported as you can see on translatewiki:WebFonts assessment. You just have to ask for it on bugzilla: to get it deployed here and see how it works (or someone else can file the request for you if you say you want but don't know how). - Before I make the request, members should see the font in action here (http://translatewiki.net). There is a link next to the login that says "language" from where you can select Amharic.
